4 TABLETOP TIPS from James Wheeler, J. Wheeler Designs
Mix colors and patterns to freshen up a look. Start with patterned salad plates and colorful glassware. Mix new pieces with existing white dinner plates and clear glassware for an extra pop on the table.
Create balance with neutral colors. Trade out dark and heavy printed linens for lightweight, neutral options. Ditch bulky tablecloths and opt for runners or placemats in linen and cotton instead.
Embrace natural materials. Linen, rattan, wicker, driftwood and jute bring an organic, easy breezy look to the table while offering easy layer-ability. They work with a variety of color palettes, materials and textures.
Try potted plants and moss instead of cut flowers for centerpieces. Wrap plants in burlap or brown kraft paper and secure with raffia for an organic, yet sophisticated appeal. Or transplant plants into beautiful, found objects for a collected look.
