Give a nod to Valentine’s Day by fashioning a heart-shaped garland, using book pages. Follow the tutorial below to make this crafty decor piece.
What you’ll need:
- Old or damaged books
- Hole Punch
- String, twine, or thin ribbon
Pull pages from an old book and cut 35, 3/4″ wide strips (this will make 5 hearts). Take six strips and cut two each into lengths of 8″, 6″, and 4.” Take a seventh strip and fold in half, this will make the top. Stack the strips from the middle outward starting with the folded strip, then 8″ on each side, then 6″ on each side, then 4″ on each side, until the 4″ pieces are on the outside of both sides of the stack. Make sure the ends of all the strips meet at one end. Staple where the strips meet the center piece. One at a time, gather each size strip in pairs and bring them down until they are touching the bottom of the center piece. You should end up with three hearts within one another. Staple the strips together at the bottom. Punch a hole in the top of the center strip. Repeat the process until you have the desired number of hearts for your garland. Cut decorative string, twine, or thin ribbon to your desired length and string it through the holes you punched in the center strips. All that’s left is to string up your garland and show off your crafty skills!
