Bootiful Pumpkin Carving

Whether you are a carver or a drawer, one thing is for sure—it wouldn’t be Halloween without a decorated pumpkin on the porch. Use our cheat sheet of tips and tricks to spark creativity.

Perfect Pick
Finding the best pumpkin is half the battle. Be sure to fully inspect the pumpkin before selecting it. Look for uniform color and a smooth, firm surface. Steer clear of ones with cuts, soft spots, mold, or bruises as these could spoil prematurely. A stem is a good way to tell if the pumpkin is fresh. A green stem means it has been freshly picked, while a brittle stem shows the gourd is older and should be avoided for carving. Test your pumpkin to see whether it can sit on a flat surface.
